The Olimpiyskiy Sports Palace Chekhov, Moscow Region
Thinking of Russia and sports you may first think about ice hockey. However, since the legendary victory of former USSR team over the USA in the finals of Munich’s Olympic Games in 1972 – a match that was decided in the last three seconds – Russian basketball is amongst best in the world. According to the FIBA statistics the Russian men’s basketball team ranks #7 and the women’s team is ranked #2 right behind the US.

In 2005 the best European U20 national teams competed with each during the FIBA European Championship in Russia. Who won? Russia of course. 61- 53 over Lithuania. During the competition 44 games were played within 11 days. The FIBA Europe U 20 Championship attracted record attention in the media and general public, FIBA announced. All games were broadcast live on Russian TV.
The championship took place in one of the most modern sport complexes in Europe, the Olimpiyskiy Sports Palace in Chekhov and the Chekhov Ice Arena. This Olimpiyskiy Sports complex does not only host international tournaments of that kind, but also 2.920 m² of HARO Sports permanent floor model Berlin 2. This floor was installed by Pro Athletics, HARO Sports’ exclusive distributor for the territory of the Russian Federation. Our 627m² big portable floor was set up in the ice arena. Two fitters from Pro Athletics and 2 local workers installed our portable floor just within 5 hours in the ice rink. The portable floor features a patented interlocking system that makes set up and disassembling incredibly fast and easy and therefore saves time and payroll costs for workers. One panel weighs just 37 kg (82lb). There is no need to use pins or screws as every panel incorporates a pair of spring clips and connection discs to secure it to the adjoining panel. Even storage space is small as the floor can be stored in stackable boxes.

The Ice hockey complex includes an area with a seating capacity of 1,370 as well as 62 VIP boxes.

'As center player you are bigger and heavier than guards. With us rebounding, blocking and fighting on the floor extreme forces are generated on our knees and our body generally. I have been playing on floors all over the US and Europe and can say that the HARO floor is the best one I have ever played on. It feels soft, but the ball bounces perfectly which gives you the will to play to full tilt.'
