East, West, Home Is Best Fine parquet flooring from native European timber
Far from limited to organic foodstuffs, the eco boom also shows in the building sector, where environmentally friendly materials and products are increasingly preferred for new construction projects and renovations. Using a variety of surface treatment methods, HARO turns native European timber into parquet flooring that looks remarkably like tropical timber such as Wenge or Merbau. Opting for European wood species like Smoked Robinia or Cherry is thus a statement of both attachment to one's home country and environmental awareness. HARO's parquet portfolio offers a wide choice of European wood species, which cover the whole colour spectrum from light to dark, and from the plank 1-strip and longstrip designs to the elegant strip parquet.
Ongoing trend towards dark wood The trend towards dark wood species continues. Anyone who wanted a dark floor in line with contemporary interior design used to be faced with few choices other than tropical timber. But there is an environmentally friendly alternative: Flooring from European wood species, for example smoked African Oak or steamed amber Robinia, has the same look and feel as exotic wood flooring. In the lighter-coloured spectrum, golden Beech perfectly fills the role of Iroko and Pear that of Jatoba.
African oak: eco-friendly Wood is a natural material. As such, floors made of wood will change their colour over time when exposed to sunlight. Some wood species become darker and some take on a slightly yellowish colouration. HARO's dark-coloured African Oak, which resembles Wenge, hardly changes its colour at all. The Oak wood is deep-smoked in special chambers and then aired. Smoking is a very old method that had fallen into oblivion and is now successfully applied again at HARO. The results are compelling: a rich dark colour that will remain beautiful for a long time. Another advantage of the smoked wood floor is that it can be sanded and refinished up to two times. African oak is available as strip parquet and in the plank 1-strip and longstrip designs. Oak wood in all its variations complements even changing styles and fashions. One could almost say that Oak moves with the times.

Thermo wood floors – elegant and warm With plank 1-strip in thermo wood, HARO offers another interesting alternative to exotic wood. In a special thermal process, oak, ash and other wood species are heat-treated without the use of chemicals. The result is wood with a rich, elegant colouration that ranges from a warm golden tone in Thermo ash to a prestigious red-brown in Thermo Oak. The wood has a low equilibrium moisture content, which reduces swelling and shrinkage. In contrast to staining, which changes the wood colour only at the surface, thermo wood displays a consistent and homogeneous colouration. Besides a unique look, thermo floors have a characteristic scent of open wood fire that creates a warm, comfortable atmosphere. The plank 1-strip design, with its brushed surface and its bevelled edges, emphasises the sophisticated solid-wood appearance of thermo floors.
European timber for environmental protection Wood is a renewable resource. 90% of the timber used in Europe comes from European forests, which have been increasing every year thanks to sustainable forest management. Prudent use of resources is a top priority at HARO, which is why only wood from sustainable sources is used, for example. This resource will only continue to be available on a sufficient scale in future if care is taken not to plunder nature. The majority of the European wood species used for manufacturing HARO flooring, e.g. Beech, come directly from the area around the company headquarters. On the one hand, this supports regional forestry. On the other hand, it offers significant economic and ecological advantages by avoiding environmentally harmful and expensive transportation.
